چکیده

188 CLINICAL CHEMISTRY, Vol. 33, No, 1, 1987 tion. Excellent correlations (r >0.98) were obtained between manual and Cobas methods. The derived CSI values were also highly correlated (Cobas CSI = 0.99 Manual CSI + 0.12, r = 0.93, p <0.001). Using the Cobas-Bio to determine the cholesterol saturation of bile is more economical and faster than the manual methods. By sequential lipid analysis of 5 L of gallbladder bile diluted in isopropanol we could determine the CSI of as many as 25 bile samples in about 1 h. The method should be applicable in clinical studies evaluating the risk factors for gallstone disease and in studies of experimental cholelithia-

Meaning of serum free-thyroxin values in nonthyroidal illnesses: seven methods compared.

Serum free thyroxin (FT4) was determined in 40 patients with various nonthyroidal illnesses. We studied seven methods: (1) a free thyroxin index calculated from total T4 and triiodothyronine resin uptake; (2) a free T4 index determined by enzyme inhibitor assays (Abbott's "Tetrazyme" and "Thyrozyme"); (3) a free T4 index calculated from total T4 and thyroxin-binding globulin; (4) free T4 by equ...

Two new two-step immunoassays for free thyroxin evaluated: solid-phase radioimmunoassay and time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay.

We measured concentrations of free thyroxin (FT4) in serum by using two new two-step FT4 assays--a solid-phase two-step radioimmunoassay. Spectria, and a time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay. Delfia--and compared the results with those by a two-step FT4 assay (RIA-gnost), a one-step FT4 analog assay (Amerlex-M), and FT4 measured after equilibrium dialysis. The new FT4 assays classified 30 hypothyroi...

Study of a mechanism responsible for anomalous results for free thyroxin by some analog assays for subjects with albumin deficiency.

I examined the effect of albumin deficiency, as might occur in pregnancy and nonthyroidal illness, on four analog-based assays for free thyroxin (Amersham's Amerlex, Diagnostic Products Corporation's Coat-A-Count "one-step," Clinical Assays' Gammacoat "one-step," and Corning's Immophase "single-step"). In subjects with albumin deficiency per se, Amerlex and Coat-A-Count results for free thyroxi...

Direct and indirect techniques for free thyroxin compared in patients with nonthyroidal illness. I. Effect of free fatty acids.

We examined the effect of endogenous free fatty acids (FFA) on the measurement of free thyroxin (FT4) by five different methodologies represented in 16 different assays in a large number of patients with nonthyroidal illness (NTI). Some, but not all, one-step (analog) FT4 RIAs negatively correlated with FFA concentration. All two-step FT4 RIAs, equilibrium dialysis FT4, and the dialyzable (free...

Clinical utility of measuring free thyroxin and free triiodothyronine in serum of critically ill patients by ultrafiltration.

Free thyroxin (FT4) measurements by ultrafiltration were compared with results obtained by equilibrium dialysis and commercial RIA methods. In a group of critically ill patients, the mean +/- 2 SD FT4 value by ultrafiltration (26.5 +/- 21.4 ng/L) was higher than in the healthy reference population (19.3 +/- 9.8 ng/L, p less than 0.0001), and correlated well with equilibrium dialysis (23.8 +/- 2...
